ATLANTIS Prolougue: The land of Atlantis concists of several islands. It is ruled by a good king. But the king's old wife died and the king has since then not been himself. He has remarried, and the new queen has great power over the king. Explorers that sailed from Atlantis have returned with the message that they have found new land. The King fears Atlantis might be invaded by people (or monsters) from the other lands, and has ordered the creation of a huge army to protect his lands. The people of Atlantis do not all agree with this and after some small conflicts the opposition (or rebels) are united under the leadership of Major Namo (who used to be in the kings army). The game starts of with the main character, (monkey) getting an asignment from Nemo. You have to meet up with a rebel spy and pick up some papers with intelligence information on the king's army for the upcoming battle (between the rebel army and the king's army). When you reach the meeting point, you find the dead body of the spy. You have to fight some soldiers and escape back to the camp. Back at the camp you get another asignment; Together with (rebel), a friend of Nemo, you are to visit an old wise man, who lives near the mountains, to ask him for advice on the conflict. The wise man tells you that you should destroy the source of the problems: The king. You are sceptical of this solution. How can you do that? The wise man tells you to go and ask the help of a young wizard, living in the mountains. During your trip into the mountains you rescue two kobolds from a fight with some orks. Once you reach the wizard's place he tests you first (just an easy fight or puzzle). Once you tell him you were send by the wise man he gets curious. He wonders why the wise man chose him to help you. He says he wants to visit the wise man himself and disappears... On your way back down the mountain you get ambushed by a group of kobolds. (rebel) is killed during this fight. You are captured and taken to the kobolds' village (the kobolds are curious because they never saw one of your race). In the village you are recognised by the two kobolds (who are brothers) you saved from the orks. You become the kobolds' guest and spend the night in their village. The next morning one of the brothers tells you he will travel with you to make up for the loss of (rebel). So (kobolt) joins your party. Together you travel to the wise man where you meet up with (wizard), who sais the wise man has convinced him to help you kill the king. He refuses to tell you how the wise man convinced him. (Wizard) is very eager to kill the king, but since tomorrow will be the day of the great battle between the rebels and the king's army you return to the rebel camp to help. The next day you and your party fight in the battle. The king's troops are led by Major Nurmo, an old friend of Major Namo. At some point during the battle a (knight) joins your party (you now have a party of 4). In a duel between Namo and Nurmo, Namo is fatally wounded. After the battle (knight) leaves your party but he invites you to visit him in his castle in the west. The rebels have won the battle but the costs are huge. That night, Namo dies form his wounds. Determined to evange Namo's death you travel west, following the escaped Nurmo and what was left of his army. You get to a town where you find (warrior) battling a couple of Nurmo's soldiers. You help him beat the soldiers and he tells you he got into a fight because he is against the king and spoke up against the soldiers about it. You tell him you are after Nurmo and could use his help, but (warrior) says he has something else to take care of. He heads for a castle ouside of town and tels you not to follow him... After that you head for a hotel where (warrior) told you Nurmo and his men are. You fight some soldiers here but Nurmo escapes. After talking to some people in the town you discover the castle where (warrior) was heading is the castle where (knight) invited you to. You also hear some stories about a curse on (knight)'s family and a story about how his father killed himself in some sort of satanic ritual. After hearing these stories you decide to visit the castle. Inside you find (warrior) and (knight) who are in the middle of a duel. (warrior) says (knight) has to die, while (knight) claims not to know why, or who (warrior) is. At this point you have to choose who you will help: -------- If you help (knight), you beat (warrior) together, who escapes after the battle.(knight) then claims not to know who (warrior) is and invites you to spend the night at his castle (it's already late). During the night, (knight) goes to a strange room where he talks to the spirit of his father. He says he doesn't want to kill (warrior) but that he might have to. His father's spirit tells him that he should join your party. The next morning he joins you, saying it's bacause he also is against the king/wants to avenge Namo. -------- If you help (warrior), you beat (knight) together (he escapes after the battle). Warrior then tells you that his great-great-grandfather was cursed by a which when he killed her. He would only get one son. And his son would only get one son, and his son too, and so on. Every other generation, this child would be evil, killing and torturing people. (Warrior)'s grandfather was good, and killed himself in a ritual to destroy the curse on his family and to make his son a good man. That son was (knight). (Warrior) is the son of (knight) and believes his father is still evil, dispite his grandfathers sacrifice. Therefore (warrior) wants to kill his father. He joins your party for that reason, and because he is also against the king. ------- You travel further west, heading for a big city with a harbor and a castle. You enter the castle, fighting soldiers on the way. Inside you find Nurmo and Colonel Cho'od, a high ranking officer in the king's army. Nurmo is reporting to Cho'od about the loss of the battle against the rebels. Cho'od is very angry about this. He then tells Nurmo that his soldiers have destroyed a village of kobolds in the mountains. (Kobold) goes into a frenzy when he hears this and storms into the room. You battle Cho'od and Nurmo and they escape into the harbor. You follow them, fighting Cho'od's personal gaurds. In the harbor Cho'od boards a ship, leaving Nurmo behind because he failed the king. Nurmo runs to another ship, and you manage to jump onto that just as it is leaving. You fight Nurmo on the ship. You kill him, and lose control of the ship. A storm comes and you are ' shipwrecked'. You wake up in the inn of a small town. The landlady is a a red-haired woman (red-hair). She found you and your party at the beach. The villagers are already working on repairing your ship/willing to give you a new one. (Red-hair) is asking you for a favor in return, though. She won't yet tell you what, saying you have to recover first. You get time to walk around the village and the surroundings. While exploring, you find a camp with soldiers of the king's army. At first you battle some soldiers there, untill a giant battle-tank appears. It beats you up and you barely escape to the village, helped by (red-hair) who came looking for you. Back in the village you take a rest and (red-hair) says that you will have to go and fight the soldiers before they come and destroy the village. She says the village has already been destroyed before and she doesn't want that to happen again. You then ask her about what happened that time, and she tells you that 80 years ago a monster came from the mountains and destroyed the whole village, including the hero, Giaad, who hunted for the monster. After resting you head for the soldiers camp where you beat up some soldiers and eventually fight the battle-tank. After destroying this you head back to the village again. The next morning (red-hair) comes and wakes you up very early. She says it's time for you to do her that favor. She tells you a friend of her is gonna try to put on Giaad's magical armor. That armor is resting inside the cave where Giaad was killed, and cannot be removed from that cave. The people now believe that only that only a new hero can wear the armor and destroy the monster (that still resides in the mountains). (Red-hair) is asking you to go to the cave and assist her friend who will try on the armor. Once you get to the cave the armor is already gone. You decide to head up the mountain to help the hero hunt down the monster. After a long climb (with the occasional battle), you encounter (insector). He tells's you he's the monster and appears to be very intelligent. You fight him but he is too strong. Just as you are losing the hero appears, wearing Giaad's armor. This scares (insector) and he runs away. Together with the hero, who doesn't speak, you go after the monster. Eventually you reach his hideout. There he starts talking to you again. He tells you about his race, insect-like creatures that can grow over 600 years old. He also tells you about how he and his partner were the last of his race. When Giaad killed his partner 80 years ago he went into a frenzy and killed Giaad and destroyed the village. After hearing this, you hesitate to attack him, and the hero angrily asks you wether you feel sorry for him (you get to choose "yes" or "no"). After that she asks you if you will still help her kill him (you get to choose again). ------------- If you fight (insector) he dies after the battle, and the armor on the hero dissappears, revealing that the hero is really (red-hair). She joins your party now as you helped her and there is nothing more for her to do with her life. ------------- If you don't kill (insector) he will join your party, and the hero leaves you very insulted. As you enter the village the villagers attack you and you fight them untill the hero appears and stops them. The villagers listen to the hero but demand to know who it is, so the hero takes of his helmet, revealing it's (red-hair). The villagers have to let you go but ban (red-hair) from the village. She now joins your party WITH Giaad's armor! ------------- Either way you get back your ship (or a new one), and you can now travel over water! You can now do some non-linear discovering. ------------- You can go to the remains of the kobolt-village to talk to the brother of the kobolt in your party (he's one of the few survivors). He joins your party also and now you have two kobolts with you! ------------ You can go back to the big castle where (knight) lives where you, if you took (warrior) in your party have to fight (knight), and if you have (knight) in your party have to fight (warrior). This is a one on one fight between the two of them (father and son). >If you fight (warrior), he dies after this fight, and (knight) still refuses to tell you what their connection is (you never find out in a game where you take (knight)). >If you fight (knight), he dies in the end. Just as the party wants to leave the castle, a spirit appears. It is (knight)'s father and (warrior)'s grand-father. He is very angry with (warrior) for killing (knight) because, unlike what (warrior) believed, (knight) was not an evil man. He was cured of the witch's curse. Because the party is scared they grab for their weapons and seeing this as a challange, the spirit attacks you. After destroying the spirit (warrior) is very depressed as he needlessly killed his father. ------------ When you return to the rebel-camp you get a new mission. A new spy for the rebels, Dwight, has given you information about the king's army. The battle-tanks in the king's army (one of which also helped destroy the kobolt village) are being built in a factory on a remote island. You are to go there and kill the inventor of the machine and also try and destroy the factory/laboratory. Once at the factory you walk into a trap and have to fight your way through the factory and the lab, facing some machines and at the end the inventor himself. -------------- Return to the rebel camp once again for another mission. The spy, Dwight, has new information on the kings army and his plans. You have to meet him close to the king's castle this time, because if he leaves for too long it will be suspicious. For this mission, you have to take (wizard) with you in your party. Once at the meeting point (at the largest of the islands) near the castle, there's no sign of Dwigh and you are captured by soldiers of the king. You are thrown into the prison inside the castle to await trial. In the mean time, the rest of the party (the ones you didn't take with you) go to the castle to try and rescue you. However, you are already being released from the prison by (fighter) an old friend of the king's, who used to be against the rebels. He says that the king has gone mad and wants to help you stop him. When he see's (wizard), he is shocked and says he recognises him. (Wizard) than decides to tell you what the wise man told him that convinced him to join the rebels. He is really the prince! He is the lost son of the king and his old wife. When his father remarried, his new wife made him dump his two-year old son in the forest. (Fighter) was supposed to do that, but he secretly brought him to the wise man instead. (Fighter) now joins your party and you have to play through the castle (which is a huge level), switching between the two parties at some points. One of the parties meets Cho'od and has to fight him, killing him in the end. The other party fights the king, who escapes while you fight his loyal bodygaurds. At this point (fighter) tells you the king has to be stopped and tells you where to go. You head to the island where the factory/laboratory was and (fighter) shows you the entrance to another lab. He says there is a machine in the lab that has to be destroyed. He doesn't know what the machine does exactly. He only knows it is very dangerous. Inside the lab you learn some things about the machine but you still don't know what it is for. At the end of the level you find a huge room where the machine was constructed. Inside the castle you find the spy, Dwight, who turns out to be a traitor. You kill him, but the machine is already gone. (Fighter) says it has probably been completed and you have to hurry and find it. At this point you have to go back to the king's castle (lot of which you haven't seen yet) too look for the king and his machine. When you meet the king at the end you fight him and kill him. After that, the queen comes into the room laughing. She tells you she controled the king by hypnosis or evil magic. Everything he did was ordered by her. She also made him order the construction of the machine, which generates a huge tidal wave that will destroy Atlantis. You ask her why she would do that, and she says Atlantis was created by Poseidon only to be sacrifised to him. You tell her she's mad and she says you just don't understand. She now summons Poseidon and you have to fight him (of course in a nice setting like the bottom of the sea, or something). After you 'beat' him he is impressed by your will to survive and let's you fight it out with the queen. Now there are several possibilities: ------------ You get to fight the queen in the castle and kill her and Atlantis can remain as it is. ------------ You get to fight the queen in the castle and kill her, but she has already activated the machine that will destroy Atlantis. Now Poseidon comes to you and tells you he will let Atlantis continue to exist beneath the sea. ------------ The queen escapes into some sort of flying machine and you get onboard also (just a few of your party-members). You fight some soldiers and kill the queen, but she tells you it's already too late and that a tidal wave will destroy Atlantis. The party on board the machine fly the machine head on into the tidal wave, thus sacrificing themselves to safe Atlantis. THE END
