Nu / Modern Metal
The Nu Metal scene is a fusion of all the other styles of metal. Influences of hip hop are often introduced to the Nu Metal and therefore different DJ techniques, hip hop/rap beats and samples are often used. Although Crossover is not a new phenomenon, ever since Korn this term was introduced to the new and modern Crossover Metal.
What makes the sound of Nu Metal different from the other metal music is of course first the use of this new technology alongside the traditonal metal instrumentation. Also that the nu metal guitarists often don’t use the traditonal metal guitar techniques including both soloing and the riff style. Furthermore is downtuning the guitar in a lower key, sometimes half an octave, much applied. In most cases the vocals are anxious and very intense, using subjects as (sexual) abuse and inner conflicts.
Rage against the machine and Korn were one of the pioneers of this genre and some key artist are: Deftones, Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park.
